웨이모, 160억 달러의 신규 투자 유치
웨이모가 160억 달러 규모의 신규 투자 유치를 거의 마무리 단계에 있는 것으로 알려졌다. 이로 인해 회사의 가치는 1,100억 달러에 이를 전망이다.
이번 투자에서 알파벳이 4분의 3 이상의 지원을 제공할 예정이며, 알파벳은 웨이모의 모기업이자 시작 단계부터 웨이모를 지원해 온 '문샷 팩토리'에 속해 있다. 새로운 투자자에는 드래고니어, 세콰이어 캐피탈, DST 글로벌이 포함되며, 기존 투자자인 안드레센 호로위츠와 아부다비 주권 부품 투자 펀드의 자산 관리 부문인 무바달라 캐피털도 참여한다.
웨이모 대변인은 테크크런치와의 인터뷰에서 "개인적인 재정 사안에 대해 직접 언급할 수는 없지만, 우리는 2천만 번 이상의 운행을 완료했으며 자율주행 이동 수요를 충족시키기 위한 안전과 기술적 리더십을 우선시하고 있다"고 밝혔다.
최근 웨이모는 마이애미에서 신규 서비스를 출시했으며, 이는 전 세계적으로 빠르게 사업을 확장하고 있음을 보여준다. 그러나 샌프란시스코 정전 사태에서 여러 로봇 택시가 신호등에 멈춰서는 등의 도전을 겪기도 했다.
웨이모는 연간 3억 5천만 달러 이상의 정기 수익을 기록하고 있으며, 2024년 시리즈 C에서 56억 달러를 모금하며 당시에 450억 달러의 가치를 인정받았다.

Waymo Secures $16 Billion in New Funding Round
Waymo is reportedly close to finalizing a new $16 billion funding round that will value the robotaxi company at $110 billion, according to Financial Times.
A considerable portion of this funding is anticipated to come from Alphabet, Waymo's parent company, which has been a significant supporter since Waymo’s inception as part of Alphabet’s “moonshot factory," X. New investors such as Dragoneer, Sequoia Capital, and DST Global are joining the round, along with existing backers Andreessen Horowitz and Mubadala Capital, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth fund.
In response to TechCrunch's inquiries, a spokesperson for Waymo stated, "While we don’t comment on private financial matters, our trajectory is clear: with over 20 million trips completed, we are focused on the safety-led operational excellence and technological leadership required to meet the vast demand for autonomous mobility."
Waymo has been expanding swiftly, including a recent public launch in Miami. However, this growth has not been without challenges, such as their robotaxis encountering issues during a significant San Francisco blackout, which caused them to stall at traffic lights.
The company reportedly generates more than $350 million in annual recurring revenue and had raised $5.6 billion in its Series C round in 2024, which valued it at $45 billion.
