나의 딸은 몇 년간 갤럭시 S22를 잘 사용해왔다. 그러나 한순간의 불행한 사고로 휴대폰이 손에서 떨어져 파손됐다. 그녀에게 새 휴대폰을 사주기로 했고, 이번에는 최고급 제품이 아닐지라도 괜찮다는 결론에 도달했다. 그래서 갤럭시 S25 FE를 선택했다. 이 제품은 삼성에서 500달러 미만에 구매할 수 있었다. 초기 설정 후 별다른 생각 없이 사용하다가 약 일주일 후 딸에게 만족도에 대해 물어보니, 그녀는 배터리 수명 면에서 오히려 업그레이드된 것 같다고 답했다.
궁금했다. 과연 이 제품이 내가 사용하는 갤럭시 S24 또는 백업용으로 쓰는 갤럭시 S25 Edge와 비교해도 괜찮을지 말이다. 그래서 일주일 동안 제품을 교환하여 경험해봤다. 그 결과, 최신 플래그십을 더 이상 구매할 필요가 없다는 결론에 이르렀다.
갤럭시 S25 FE의 일상적인 성능은 놀라웠다. RAM이 8GB로 적고, 고급 스냅드래곤 프로세서와 비교해 약간 약하지만 실제 사용 시 별반 차이를 느끼지 못했다. 게임, 앱 실행 등 모든 경험이 나의 갤럭시 S24와 큰 차이가 없었다. 또한, 카메라 성능 역시 기대 이상이었다. 나의 경우, 단순히 무리 없이 쓸 수 있는 정도면 충분하다고 생각하는데, 갤럭시 S25 FE도 기대치를 충족시켰다.
그러나 배터리 수명이 특히 인상적이었다. 갤럭시 플래그십 기기들이 그동안 개선된 배터리 수명을 보여줬지만, 여전히 사용 시간이 67시간 정도밖에 되지 않았다. 반면, 갤럭시 S25 FE는 최대 89시간까지 무난히 사용 가능했다. 더 큰 디스플레이도 만족스러웠다. 개인적으로 큰 화면을 선호하는데, 플러스 시리즈에 추가 비용을 지불할 가치가 없다고 생각했던 터라, 6.7인치 AMOLED 디스플레이는 기대 이상이었다.
이 제품을 사용하면서 플래그십을 구매해 온 이유가 단지 습관이었다는 것을 깨달았다. 기술적인 우위보다도, 이제는 브랜딩이나 지위를 위한 구매가 크다는 점에서 낭비가 아닌가 싶었다. 앞으로는 고급 모델에 대한 지출을 재고해볼 값어치가 있다고 결론 짓게 됐다. 필요가 생기면 생각을 바꿀 수 있지만, 지금 상태로는 큰 변화가 필요해 보이지 않는다.

From the moment we set it up, it felt familiar, almost reminiscent of my Galaxy S24. Weeks later, I inquired if my daughter was satisfied, and she shared that it felt like an upgrade in terms of battery life.
This piqued my curiosity. Could this phone hold its own against my Galaxy S24 or even the Galaxy S25 Edge I use for backup? After a week of swapping devices with her, it became evident that my era of purchasing the latest flagships might be ending.
In terms of everyday performance, the Galaxy S25 FE surprised me with its capabilities. It sports 8GB of RAM, less than high-end models, and an Exynos processor that doesn't quite match up to the Snapdragon chips, yet these differences were insignificant in daily usage. Every app, game, and interaction was nearly as seamless as my Galaxy S24. Even the camera surpassed expectations—I primarily need a camera that functions adequately, and this phone delivered.
What truly won me over was the battery life. While Galaxy flagships have improved in this area, I still find my Galaxy S24 struggling to exceed six or seven hours of screen time. Conversely, the Galaxy S25 FE features a 4,900mAh battery, comfortably reaching eight to nine hours of usage. The larger display at 6.7 inches also suited my preference, though it lacked the brightness of the Plus series, it was never a significant drawback.
After spending time with the Galaxy S25 FE, I realized that my allegiance to flagship phones was more a matter of habit than necessity. Nowadays, the perceived status of owning a flagship matters less to me. Professionally, I still need to understand and utilize new models, but I'll think twice before spending on a high-end phone in the future.
