엔비디아의 젠슨 황 최고경영자(CEO)는 최근 블룸버그를 통해 오픈AI에 대한 대규모 투자를 계획 중이라고 밝혔다. 이는 월스트리트저널의 보도 이후 나온 발언이다. 이전 보도에서는 양사 간 1천억 달러 규모의 거래가 초기 협상을 넘어 진전되지 않았다는 소식이 전해졌다.
지난 9월, 엔비디아와 오픈AI는 1천억 달러에 달하는 투자를 통해 10기가와트 규모의 인공지능 데이터 센터를 구축하겠다고 발표한 바 있다. 이들은 이 프로젝트의 첫 번째 단계가 2026년 하반기에 가동될 것을 목표로 잡았다. 그러나 월스트리트저널은 이 협약이 구속력이 없는 것으로, 젠슨 황 CEO가 오픈AI의 비즈니스 접근 방식에 대해 사적으로 비판했다는 내용을 전했다.
하지만 블룸버그는 황 CEO가 이러한 보도가 "말도 안 된다"고 일축하며 오픈AI의 활동을 믿고 있다고 밝혔다. 황 CEO는 "오픈AI는 우리 시대 가장 중요한 기업 중 하나"라는 의견을 전했다. 다만, 이번 투자 라운드에서의 엔비디아의 투자 금액은 1천억 달러에는 미치지 않을 것으로 보인다.

NVIDIA Continues Investment Plans with OpenAI
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang has announced plans to make a substantial investment in OpenAI, despite earlier reports from The Wall Street Journal suggesting that a prior $100 billion deal between the companies had stalled. In a statement to Bloomberg, Huang emphasized that the company remains committed to investing heavily in OpenAI's latest funding round.
In September, NVIDIA and OpenAI had announced intentions for a colossal $100 billion investment to establish 10 gigawatts of AI data centers, with the first phase projected to launch in the second half of 2026. Sources cited by The Wall Street Journal indicated that the agreement was nonbinding and suggested internal critiques of OpenAI's business discipline by Huang.
However, Huang has dismissed these claims as "nonsense", reaffirming his belief in OpenAI's groundbreaking work. He praised the firm as one of the most consequential companies of our time. While Bloomberg reports that NVIDIA’s upcoming investment won’t reach $100 billion, Huang's comments suggest a continued strong partnership with OpenAI.
